This year for vacation we went to Sequoia National Park. We actually went last year for Spring Break, but because of snow we never made it out of the foothills. So we decided a summer trip was in order to make sure we could get through on the roads. We thought it would be fun to go camping with some friends. Since the Eckstroms are veterans at camping and great friends too, we thought we would ask them. We left on Thursday morning, Tyler's 11th birthday.
When we got to the park we found out there was construction on the road up to the Giant Forest. So half way up the mountain, we had to stop and wait for about 15 minutes or so.This is the middle row of the car...Abby, Jamie and John. John loves playing with lego "guys", he was much too busy to look and smile at the camera.

Once we got there we quickly set up camp and went to see General Sherman, the oldest tree in the world. The sequoias need fires to keep reproducing, so alot of them have burn damage. Here are Abby, Toby, Jamie, Bryce, and Josh standing in the trees burned out hole.
The kids and James in front of General Sherman, by the time I got a good picture of everyone looking, of course the one adult in the picture got bored! It figures! We had a great hike that we finished with an ice cream to beat the heat.
Waiting for dinner to be cooked. This campsite was perfect, we could keep the kids behind the rocks and away from the fire, plus they had a foot rest.
Tyler got a kindle for his birthday. He was totally surprised. Since we knew we'd be giving it to him on vacation, we charged it up and put some books on it. Turns out it makes for great fireside reading. It was a great first day.
